Weekly Exercises

The course is complemented by weekly exercises. Please consult the semester schedule for dates, unless otherwise notified through Moodle announcements. The contents of the exercise session will include some or all of the following elements:

Homework Assignments

In addition to the weekly exercises, the course is supplemented with biweekly homework assignments. These contain pen-and-paper as well as programming tasks and will be published through this webpage.

Completion of the homework assignments will grant you bonus points for the final exam.

The assignments can be completed in the groups that you will be assigned to in the Moodle courseroom of this class. The submission of the assignments will also be handled through the Moodle courseroom of this class.

Details regarding the student groups, grading scheme as well as bonus point policy for the homework assignments will be discussed during the first exercise session.

Important

Each homework assignment has a deadline. Submissions after the deadline are not accepted. The submissions cannot be changed after the deadline is expired.

Student Groups

In order to promote collaboration and improve team-working skills, students are encouraged to submit homework assignments in groups comprising a maximum of three students.

Grading Scheme

Approximately 50% of the tasks will be graded. Tasks chosen for grading will be randomly selected from the homework assignment set during the weekly exercise session following the submission deadline.

Bonus Points Policy

By submitting homework assignments, students have the opportunity to earn bonus points. Students can earn 10% of the maximal exam points through bonus points. The bonus points are calculated according the the formula

\[ \text{Bonus Points} = Round\left( 0.1 * \text{Maximal Exam Points} * F\right) \] where \[ F = min \left( 1.0, \dfrac{\text{Obtained Homework Points}}{0.6 * \text{Total Homework Points}}\right) \] and \[ \text{Total Exam Points} = \text{Obtained Exam Points} + \text{Bonus Points} \]
